About the position

The Lead Instructor for Children with Disabilities at VistAbility is responsible for working with children aged 18 months to 6 years who have developmental delays, behavioral and emotional challenges, including those on the autism spectrum. This role involves creating a structured environment and implementing activities that support the developmental and behavioral goals of each child using therapeutic techniques such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Responsibilities

• Conducts classes for children in accordance with the instructional design and philosophy of the program.
• Supports children with all areas of their development (speech, cognitive, fine/gross motor skills, self-help, social skills, etc.).
• Evaluates each child in class and in all program activities; prepares Individualized Program Plans (IPP) for each child.
• Plans and implements daily activities, including class, music, and lunch.
• Participates in parent and staff meetings.
• Maintains close contact with parents and/or caregivers.
• Attends required agency trainings, both on and off site.
• Supervises the work of the Children's Mental Health Assistant.

Requirements

• California Driver's license and good driving record.
• Associate's Degree or Higher in Child Development or related field.
• Education must include at least 12 Early Childhood Education units.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience working in a mental health setting preferred.
• Knowledge of how abuse and trauma affect young children, as well as the ability to not personalize a child's behaviors.
• Demonstrated leadership and teambuilding abilities.
• Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing, in Professional English.
