About the position

The Lead Laboratory Research Specialist at the University of Maryland's Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center is responsible for overseeing laboratory research activities, providing technical expertise, and ensuring the effective design and implementation of research protocols. This role involves leading projects, particularly those involving laboratory mice research studies, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead biomedical laboratory research activities, ensuring design, development, documentation, and implementation of research procedures and protocols.
  • Lead the development and execution of projects involving laboratory mice research studies.
  • Revise studies in consultation with the principal investigator to meet changing needs and enforce standards.
  • Provide day-to-day laboratory operations oversight, including ordering supplies and ensuring quality control and safety compliance.
  • Identify and address issues and deficiencies, implementing effective solutions.
  • Assist with literature research, editing, and preparing manuscripts and scientific illustrations for publication.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret research data using relevant computer software applications and present research findings.
  • Perform administrative duties such as training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians, and developing procedures for laboratory experimentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in laboratory research, including three years in the relevant research specialization.
  • Training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, and shipping of hazardous materials may be required.
