About the position

The Lead Paralegal - Insurance at CoBank is responsible for overseeing the borrower insurance portfolio, ensuring compliance with regulatory and credit requirements, and providing technical expertise in property, casualty, and flood insurance. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to verify compliance and resolve insurance requirements, as well as performing complex analyses related to insurance policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and oversees the borrower insurance portfolio and process, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert regarding insurance matters.
  • Collaborates with internal departments, insurance agents, and other stakeholders to verify compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Independently performs analysis and ensures compliance with complex insurance requirements.
  • Leads the borrower insurance process and ensures compliance with regulatory and credit requirements.
  • Provides guidance and support to the organization regarding all insurance matters.
  • Drafts or updates procedures and guidance as needed.
  • Develops quality control and approval processes for collateral coverage and insurance adequacy.
  • Assists with lender flood force placement as required.
  • Ensures insurance monitoring and reporting are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversees and reviews input of insurance in collateral tracking system.
  • Performs review of insurance carriers for acceptable ratings for all insurance policies.
  • Assists with legal and regulatory research as needed.
  • Communicates regularly with in-house attorneys and other stakeholders regarding recommendations and issues.
  • Coordinates with other loan processing managers and associates on mutual interest matters.
  • Assesses training needs and coordinates training opportunities.
  • Serves as a point of escalation to resolve complex insurance issues.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in insurance, with at least three years in property and casualty insurance.
  • Demonstrated experience with the Flood Disaster Protection Act (FDPA) and National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements.
  • Proven experience reviewing insurance policy applications and contracts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or relevant discipline.
  • Paralegal certification preferred.
  • Property and Casualty Insurance licenses preferred.
