Lead Software Engineer - API Platform

About the position

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer and Community Banking, you are an integral part of API Marketplace product that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading API platform product in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Drive significant business impact through your capabilities and contributions and apply deep technical expertise and problem-solving methodologies to tackle a diverse array of challenges that span multiple technologies and applications. You will create next generation of API Platform for Chase and you will lead and grow various aspects of API Platform and provide technical guidance and direction to advance our API product strategy so that our partner developers, internal developers, and business decision-makers can innovate and ship products for our customers faster.

Responsibilities

• Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting, with the ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.
• Develop secure, high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others.
• Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate the remediation of recurring issues to improve the overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
• Facilitate API platform modernization using technologies related to cloud-based microservice applications, event-based communication, and data at the edge with eventual consistency.
• Build scalable and resilient API platforms, services, and tooling to support all stages of the API lifecycle.
• Serve as a function-wide subject matter expert in the API Marketplace.
• Actively contribute to the engineering community as an advocate of API platforms, tools, and practices of the API Development Life Cycle.
• Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture.
• Drive decisions that influence product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes.
• Influence peers and project decision-makers to consider the use and application of leading-edge technologies.
• Contribute to a team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

Requirements

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Advanced proficiency in one or more modern programming languages in addition to Java (knowledge of other JVM languages such as Kotlin or Scala is a plus).
• Hands-on experience developing microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience in the development/support of REST API interfaces (SpringBoot, gRPC, Swagger, Flask), SQL, and NoSQL technologies.
• Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms.
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods.
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
• Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
• Practical cloud-native experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with products related to APIs, SDKs, first-party and third-party Developer Platforms, and IAM (Identity and Access Management).
• Experience in API Management platforms, API Gateways, API Catalog, and a deep understanding of API technologies - REST, GraphQL, gRPC.
• Experience with container platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of hybrid cloud strategy and cloud computing technologies, including Cloud Foundry and AWS (Amazon Web Services).
• Experience building distributed systems with microservices.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL (Cassandra preferred).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
