About the position

The Mechanical Commissioning Lead at Kent Plc is responsible for overseeing the mechanical commissioning execution team in Houston, TX, as part of a long-term Commissioning & Startup project. This role involves ensuring alignment with other disciplines, managing resources, and maintaining performance metrics to achieve successful project outcomes. The position requires strong technical skills, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Direct report to the Commissioning & Start-Up Lead for planning and execution management support.
  • Directs and supervises the mechanical commissioning execution team in assigned plant areas.
  • Acts as System Owner for all systems and sub-systems within the area associated with their discipline.
  • Ensures seamless handover to Operations and acceptance of the facilities.
  • Instructs and supervises mechanical technician teams, vendors, and subcontractors to meet commissioning targets.
  • Supports other discipline Commissioning Leads on mechanical commissioning issues.
  • Maintains mechanical commissioning teams' performance, efficiency, productivity, and delivery to schedule.
  • Prepares detailed work including job packs and materials for operation packs.
  • Plans and forecasts resources, including Level 5 planning development.
  • Reports progress and productivity against system schedules and performance metrics.
  • Maintains the Systems Completion Database for progress tracking and reporting.
  • Ensures all test documentation and commissioning records are completed correctly.
  • Supervises up to 12 mechanical commissioning technicians/operators.
  • Identifies and manages mechanical discipline commissioning resource needs and tools.
  • Coordinates with Mechanical/operation techs for scheduling and vendor control.
  • Liaises with the TO/HO team for the handover of commissioned systems to Operations.
  • Ensures compliance with SOP/PSSR requirements for equipment and systems.
  • Interfaces with safety advisors to ensure a safe job area.
  • Responsible for safety and environmental controls in their areas of activity.

Requirements

  • College technical diploma or equivalent mechanical qualification or 10+ years of relevant mechanical supervisory commissioning experience, preferably in Oil and Gas.
  • Experience in refinery commissioning, start-up, or operations.
  • Good working knowledge of PSSR requirements and mechanical isolations.
  • In-depth knowledge of Project Completion standards, specifications, and safety criteria.
  • Established track record in supervising large teams through Mechanical Completion, Commissioning, and Start Up.
  • Proven strong technical skills in mechanical discipline subject matter.
  • Strong understanding of work planning, scheduling, and tracking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to LNG practices, processes, and expectations regarding Systems Completion and Commissioning operations.
