If you want to make a difference, come join us. We make places that perform. RLF is currently seeking a full-time entry level Mechanical Engineer with a focus in HVAC. The Mechanical Engineer assists in preparing detailed drawings of engineering designs and plans for buildings and structures. Performs a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard engineering techniques for small projects or selected segments of a larger project. Performs design layouts and features, which require researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles and practices to projects within scope of work.
  • Assist in producing mechanical design of building systems to include heating, cooling, ventilation, building automation, and process systems.
  • Use computer-aided drafting (CAD) programs (primarily Autodesk Revit) to produce construction drawings.
  • Analyze building codes, space and site requirements, and other technical documents and reports to determine their effect on engineering designs.
  • Work in partnership with a multi-discipline team of engineers, architects, and designers to produce constructible drawing packages.
  • Obtain and assemble data to complete engineering designs, visit job sites prior to, during, and following design, as necessary.
  • Represent engineering on active construction sites, ensure construction compliance with design specifications and advise on engineering corrections, under licensed engineer supervision.
  • Read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and other relevant reports.
  • Research and evaluate mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet project requirements.
  • Research and analyze design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs and applications.
  • Assist engineers and other team members to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Provide feedback to design engineers on project problems and needs.
  • Assist in evaluating mechanical designs for energy performance or environmental impact.
  • Assist in designing integrated mechanical or alternative systems to improve energy efficiency.
  • Perform mechanical calculations to determine loads and size equipment.
  • Perform construction assistance in the form of responding to contractor RFIs, review shop drawings, and perform construction site field observations reports and prepare punch lists during various stages of construction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) a plus.
  • Learning experience with an HVAC emphasis preferred.
  • Student internship experience within an Architectural and Engineering firm a plus.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and ICC.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuous learning in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • An understanding of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, or other relevant design software platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to demonstrate awareness and safely navigate an active construction site.
