About the position

The Medical Records Specialist PRN at Methodist Hospital Metropolitan is responsible for managing and processing medical records, ensuring compliance with health information management standards. This role involves retrieving, reconciling, and scanning medical records, as well as assisting with the physician suspension process and interacting with parents for birth certificate documentation. The position is designed for individuals who are passionate about patient care and have a keen attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve discharged medical records from various departments and reconcile them to ensure all records are accounted for.
• Facilitate the retrieval and printing of medical records from storage, as well as manage archival and retention of documents that cannot be scanned.
• Assist with the physician suspension process by evaluating and recommending suspensions, sending notice letters, and making reminder calls.
• Prepare medical records and loose documents for scanning and perform quality control validation on scanned documents.
• Complete any required certification programs and continuing education for birth certificate processing, interacting with parents to collect necessary information.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in handling patient health information and medical records is strongly preferred.
• Hospital or medical office experience preferred, but not required.
• Completion of a certification program from the state(s) may be required for birth certificate processing.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with medical records document imaging.
