About the position

The Medication Technician provides medication assistance and personal care to the residents of the community, following the guidelines provided by CIEL Senior Living. This role supports the mission, vision, and goals of the organization, upholding and promoting the company culture and vision. The technician is responsible for completing documentation per Ciel standards to ensure that all care services are provided and that resident needs are met. They participate in narcotic counts, administer medications, maintain cleanliness of medication areas, and ensure timely reordering of medications. The technician also documents resident conditions, assists in creating and maintaining electronic health records, and participates in community wellness programs.

Responsibilities

  • Complete documentation per Ciel standards to ensure that all care services are provided and that resident needs are met.
  • Participate in narcotic count at shift change, ensuring accurate documentation of inventory count.
  • Complete administration of medication as directed, ensuring compliance with 'Rights of Medication Administration'.
  • Participate in weekly medication cart audits, as assigned.
  • Assist in timely re-ordering of medication.
  • Maintain cleanliness of medication room and medication cart.
  • Ensure that all new medication orders are faxed to the pharmacy to obtain medication in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Inform families when mail order medicines need to be reordered.
  • Follow Physician Order Protocol to ensure proper processing of orders.
  • Document and report any resident change of condition/status per policy.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining resident charts in electronic healthcare record (EHR).
  • Participate in community Wellness Programs as assigned.
  • Obtain and record residents’ vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration), weight, as directed.
  • Observe resident to detect response to specified types of medications and prepare incident report if indicated or notify designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
  • Ensure call lights are answered in a timely manner and attend to unanticipated residents needs as soon as possible after the call light is engaged.
  • Appropriately address associate, family, and resident concerns to promote satisfaction and good communication.
  • Be knowledgeable of the fire evacuation and disaster policy of the community and participate as assigned in fire and disaster drills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent personal and health information concerning residents and staff.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of compliance and ethics program policies and procedures.
  • Complete all mandatory compliance, HIPAA and state and federal regulatory training as required.
  • Oversee resident aides during the assigned shift, ensuring assigned tasks are completed by call care team members.
  • Attend training courses at community and maintain up to date monthly, quarterly, annual training through designated Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Attend all required staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which relate to the success of the community and the care, comfort, and happiness of residents.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • HCA or CNA required.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Medication Administration training/certification per state requirements.
  • Must meet all health requirements.
  • Experienced Caregiver of Certified Nursing assistant certification per state requirements.
  • CPR certification.
  • Must have strong understanding of the English language sufficient to read, write, and communicate.
