About the position

The New Car Sales Representative is responsible for selling and leasing new and used vehicles at the dealership while meeting gross profit, volume, and customer satisfaction standards. This role involves engaging with customers, understanding their transportation needs, and guiding them through the vehicle selection process. The representative must maintain a high level of customer service and follow dealership procedures to ensure a smooth sales process.

Responsibilities

  • Sells/leases and delivers a minimum of 10 units per month.
  • Greets and assists customers who enter the dealership showroom or sales lot.
  • Helps customers select vehicles by asking questions and listening to their responses.
  • Explains product performance, application, and benefits to prospects.
  • Describes optional equipment available for customer purchase.
  • Offers test drives to all prospects and follows dealership procedures for identification.
  • Utilizes dealership sales control and follow-up system.
  • Maintains a high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Understands federal, state, and local laws governing retail automobile sales.
  • Establishes personal income goals consistent with dealership standards and devises strategies to meet those goals.
  • Attends product and sales training courses as requested by the sales manager.
  • Keeps abreast of new products, features, accessories, and their benefits to customers.
  • Explains equity and values, including depreciation, to customers.
  • Ensures sales manager meets each customer and turns closed deals to finance and insurance manager with proper paperwork.
  • Writes complete sales orders and processes paperwork according to dealership policies.
  • Prepares sold vehicles for customer delivery and ensures customer understands vehicle features and paperwork.
  • Introduces customers to service department personnel and schedules first service appointment.
  • Follows up on post-delivery items and maintains a prospect development system.
  • Reviews and analyzes actions to better utilize time and plans effectively.
  • Attends sales meetings and maintains a professional appearance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
