About the position

The Nursing Attendant in the Nursing Float Pool at Mount Sinai provides essential support to Registered Professional Nurses by delivering direct patient care and assisting with various nursing procedures. This part-time evening role focuses on ensuring patient comfort, safety, and well-being while maintaining a clean and organized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists nursing staff in performing selected nursing procedures and treatments.
  • Monitors and records vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain rating.
  • Performs activities of daily living, ambulation, mobility, and personal hygiene for patients.
  • Observes, reports, and records patient data and responses to treatment.
  • Reports pertinent information regarding patients to the registered nurse.
  • Ensures a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Assists with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Maintains food and fluid intake records for patients.
  • Provides care related to excretion of body waste.
  • Safely lifts, positions, and ambulates patients using proper body mechanics.
  • Utilizes mechanical devices as necessary for patient care.
  • Applies heat and cold as needed for patient comfort.
  • Prepares deceased patients for removal to the morgue.
  • Supports families and significant others of patients.
  • Secures patient property and belongings.
  • Maintains and assembles equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Assists with physical exams and other procedures as needed.
  • Conducts hourly rounding for assigned patients to check on their needs.
  • Transports patients and specimens as required.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Stocks supplies and maintains equipment cleanliness.
  • Works safely and provides for the safety of patients and staff.
  • Utilizes aggression control measures when necessary.
  • Assists RN with application of restraints as required.
  • Performs patient observations for safety checks as assigned.
  • Communicates basic information and instructions to patients and families.
  • Attends ongoing staff development and educational meetings.
  • Demonstrates a caring and humanistic attitude towards patients and families.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed training as a medical assistant or nursing assistant or equivalent training or experience.
  • American Heart Association Heartsaver Certification required; BCLS is accepted.
  • Prefer relevant experience in an inpatient health care setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting with direct patient care.
  • Additional certifications related to patient care.
