About the position

The Operating Room Nurse at OOSC is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing orthopedic surgery procedures. This role involves maintaining a safe and sterile environment in the operating room, providing care before, during, and after surgery, and collaborating with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care. The position emphasizes a patient-centered approach and requires effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing orthopedic surgery procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room.
  • Provide care to patients before, during, and after surgery.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the operating room.
  • Support the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the organization.
  • Participate as a team member in support of the total operative process.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor/management, patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Document patient information and disseminate it to appropriate departments.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings, committees, and in-services.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties.
  • Respond to emergency situations with competence and composure.
  • Organize nursing activities efficiently and confirm proper techniques are used.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of pre/postoperative areas.
  • Perform thorough patient assessments and develop care plans based on assessment data.

Requirements

  • Current nursing license to practice through the Iowa Department of Public Health.
  • Basic ACLS Certification; unrestricted IA RN license, BLS.
  • Experience in Orthopedics is preferred.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stress calmly and be flexible to change.

Nice-to-haves

  • ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.
  • Experience in a similar related industry or ASC is preferred.
