About the position

The Part-time General Surgeon/Physician at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center is responsible for providing surgical and non-surgical treatment for orthopedic conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role involves diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal diseases and injuries, participating in after-hours call schedules, and ensuring compliance with medical documentation and performance standards. The physician will also mentor residents and mid-level providers, contributing to the overall health and well-being of Veterans through a Whole Health System of care.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat common orthopedic surgical conditions.
• Participate in after-hours call schedule and respond to emergent situations.
• See patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Perform examinations, surgical consultations, and develop treatment and follow-up plans.
• Provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment.
• Complete all required medical documentation in a timely manner.
• Ensure effective delivery of care while meeting compliance and performance standards.
• Mentor, train, and supervise residents and mid-level providers.
• Perform other directly related duties as required.

Requirements

• United States Citizenship.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
