About the position

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for selling products to independent stores, managing client relationships, and coordinating promotional events. This role involves visiting assigned stores, presenting new items, securing orders, and ensuring product distribution and merchandising standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Visit the assigned stores in the territory monthly.
  • Present new items for clients and secure orders.
  • Present promotional activity to store buyers and secure orders and off-shelf displays.
  • Access distribution on existing items to ensure they are being carried.
  • Assist in any merchandising needed for products.
  • Enter orders taken into the turnover order system and transmit to the office for delivery.
  • Work with stores on special projects such as demos, trade events, remodels, and new store openings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of products and new items.
  • Maintain rapport with regional managers of clients.
  • Keep all informed of issues with stores, competitive activity, and trends.
  • Maintain full distribution and display of products in assigned accounts.
  • Rotate stock, clean and stock display, and price merchandise as appropriate.
  • Check date codes and ensure adherence to approved plan-o-gram.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Five years prior retail experience required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a car for extended periods.
  • Must be available for occasional overnight travel (meetings/food shows).
  • Must be willing and able to work in extremely cold conditions (i.e. refrigerated and freezer sections of retail stores).
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with others.
  • Must be able to speak and hear.
  • Must be able to walk, stoop, kneel, reach, pull, grasp, and stand on a daily basis.
  • Must have good vision and dexterous use of both hands.
  • Must be able to operate a calculator, fax machine, telephone, copier, hand truck, pallet jack, hammer, screwdriver, drill, and case cutter.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods.
