About the position

The Park Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Reno is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the maintenance and enhancement of public parks and landscaped areas. This position requires a dynamic leader with a passion for urban green spaces, who can balance hands-on supervision with strategic planning. The supervisor will lead a dedicated team, manage new construction projects, and ensure that parks meet high-quality standards while adhering to established policies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of assigned staff responsible for park maintenance and repair.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing park maintenance services and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Participate in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for park maintenance.
  • Participate in the selection, motivation, and evaluation of park maintenance personnel and provide staff training.
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of park landscaping, including flower beds, turf, and trees.
  • Determine needs for the application of agricultural chemicals and select proper application techniques.
  • Review park development and landscape plans for compliance with established standards.
  • Conduct inspections of assigned park areas to ensure adherence to maintenance procedures and safety standards.
  • Select and install park amenities and inspect their condition.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work performed and prepare reports on park activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, turf/plant science, or a related field.
  • Four years of responsible park maintenance, landscaping, or horticultural design experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Bilingual skills are strongly encouraged.
