About the position

Applications are being accepted for the position of Park Maintenance Worker with the City of South San Francisco in the Parks & Recreation Department. The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the City's parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping and performs a wide range of tasks in order to care for City parks and open spaces. Staff work throughout the year to refresh the appearance of parks repairing or replacing items as needed to keep public spaces clean and safe. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. The ideal Park Maintenance Worker is a dedicated and dependable individual who takes pride in maintaining public spaces to the highest standards. Experienced in park or landscape maintenance, this candidate will have a strong foundational knowledge of the tools, techniques, and safety practices essential to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and landscaping.
  • Perform groundskeeping tasks including mowing, trimming, weeding, fertilizing, planting, and basic irrigation maintenance.
  • Operate light motorized equipment such as mowers, chippers, and small tractors.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on park facilities and equipment.
  • Work safely and efficiently in various weather conditions.
  • Identify and resolve maintenance issues proactively.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work.
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California commercial driver's license.
