About the position

SOVAH Health - Danville is seeking a full-time Pharmacist to coordinate and provide pharmaceutical care for patients. The role involves interpreting physician prescriptions, acting as a drug information resource, compounding and dispensing medications, and managing drug therapy protocols as part of an interdisciplinary team. The pharmacist will also evaluate medication orders, provide education on medication therapy, and document interventions for quality improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and provide pharmaceutical care of patients.
  • Interpret physician prescriptions and medication orders.
  • Act as a drug information resource to patients and medical staff.
  • Compound and dispense prescribed medications and pharmaceuticals.
  • Manage drug therapy protocols as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Review, interpret, and evaluate medication orders to identify and resolve drug-related problems.
  • Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Document interventions and their outcomes for quality improvement.
  • Evaluate medication orders for accuracy and completeness before entry.
  • Check for accuracy after filling by technicians.
  • Maintain knowledge of pharmacy automated systems and software.
  • Manage systems for storage, preparation, and dispensing of medications.
  • Retrieve, analyze, and interpret scientific literature for drug information responses.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient pharmacotherapy for effective care.
  • Apply clinical pharmacokinetic data to promote effective medication regimens.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Program in Pharmacy required.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's or Doctor of Pharmacy preferred.
  • Licensure by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays.
