About the position

The Principal Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in the development of advanced User Terminal (UT) solutions, focusing on phased array chipsets and antenna architectures. This position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and engagement with customers to support the development and productization of various UT products. The engineer will be responsible for defining requirements, conducting analysis, and ensuring that deliverables meet technical and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Define formal requirements and specifications for UT systems architectures and subsystems, using standard tracking methodologies.
  • Conduct analysis and design tradeoffs for UT architectures, including RF and performance simulations to inform decision-making.
  • Support the requirement definition of phased array chipsets for Ku and Ka bands.
  • Develop cost-efficient calibration methodologies and techniques for rapid production.
  • Create and manage coverage and test plans, ensuring alignment with project timelines.
  • Collaborate proactively with internal and external stakeholders on hardware and software architectures.
  • Document and flow down requirements to various engineering teams.
  • Facilitate coordination of engineering efforts across the organization.
  • Ensure deliverables meet technical, functional, performance, regulatory, and business standards.
  • Support in-field testing and validation of UT systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering).
  • 7+ years of experience in software/hardware development, including at least 5 years in an architectural/system role.
  • Proficiency in RF, digital communication, and communication theory.
  • Extensive experience in developing complex telecommunications or satellite communication systems.
  • Familiarity with formal requirement tools and methodologies (e.g., Jama, Jira, DOORS).
  • Programming skills in MATLAB, Python, and C/C++ (3+ years).
  • Knowledge of computer networking and TCP/IP.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or PhD in a related field.
  • Understanding of satellite communication theory.
  • Experience with phased array designs and implementations.
  • Field trial experience with satellite over-the-air communication.
  • Skills in debugging systems integration from RF front-end to baseband.
