About the position

The Production Underwriter for Life Sciences at Great American Insurance Group is responsible for evaluating and managing risks associated with insuring companies in the life sciences sector, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of the life sciences industry, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers. The position can be performed fully remote or in a hybrid model from the Cincinnati headquarters.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage risks associated with insuring life sciences companies.
• Make decisions on risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability.
• Maintain a high level of customer service.
• Analyze coverage and limit requests and determine terms to offer.
• Price business in accordance with company guidelines.
• Assess risk quality and compliance and initiate loss prevention actions.
• Order and screen reports needed for rating and underwriting processes.
• Develop and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external customers.
• Visit agents, brokers, and producers to retain accounts and develop new opportunities.
• Interpret, explain, and market products and services.
• Administer and update underwriting rules and guidelines.
• Provide technical advice to lower-level associates and other functional areas.
• May coach and manage staff, participating in talent selection and performance management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
• 6 to 10 years of related experience, preferably in life sciences underwriting.
• Certification in area of expertise preferred (e.g., AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, ARM).
