Overview
The Public Safety Manager will play a key role in managing, leading, supervising, and/or be a liaison for the Safety Team, 3rd party Security, First Responders, and Emergency Management teams. Also, play an essential role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors, exhibitors, and staff during events by creating and implementing safety & security policies, educating GCC staff members on safety and security matters, patrolling, and/or monitoring the venue premises to prevent incidents, accidents, theft, violence, or infractions of facility rules. The Public Safety Manager may represent GCC at public events, conferences, and trainings.
This role will pay a salary of $58,656.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision: Lead, supervise, and manage a team of internal and contracted security personnel, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated, and capable of delivering exceptional security services. Provide clear instructions, assign duties, and monitor performance to maintain an elevated level of professionalism and safety. Able to effectively communicate and deliver corrective actions in a manner that not only corrects the employee's behavior but teaches them a better way to manage the situation. Recruit, counsel, and develop employees for advancement opportunities.
Scheduling and Time Management: Responsible for creating the monthly work schedule for Security Officers, the Security Supervisor, 3rd party Security, First Responders, and Law Enforcement. The schedule will be created to reflect the needs of the convention center.
Security Operations: Oversee all security operations within the convention center premises, including entrance and exit points, parking areas, exhibition halls, meeting rooms, and other designated areas. Manage surveillance systems, conduct regular patrols, and respond to security incidents or breaches promptly and efficiently. Stay up to date with all new security trends and technologies.
Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement comprehensive emergency response protocols to effectively manage various scenarios, such as fire emergencies, medical incidents, active shooter, and evacuation procedures. Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services to ensure seamless collaboration during critical situations. Conduct annual evacuation procedures with all employees.
Crowd Control: Strategically plan and manage crowd control measures to prevent overcrowding, maintain orderly behavior, and ensure the smooth flow of visitors. Effectively manage potentially demanding situations with tact and diplomacy, employing de-escalation techniques, as necessary.
Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open lines of communication with event managers, clients, and other departments within the convention center to exchange relevant security information. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop security plans tailored to specific events, considering unique requirements and potential risks. Communicate with peers in the industry from other venues to collaborate on security trends or ideas. To collaborate with the Director of Events on GCC parking matters to ensure a safe parking operation that flows from ingress to egress.
Training and Development: Conduct regular training sessions for security personnel to enhance their skills in areas such as conflict resolution, first aid, emergency response, and customer service. Stay updated with the latest security trends, technologies, and industry best practices by attending various related training, to continuously improve security operations. Also, develop and implement safety and security training for all GCC employees.
Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, such as fire safety codes and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. Maintain accurate records of security incidents, investigations, and daily activity logs. The Public Safety Manager will ensure that a Risk Assessment Report and After-Action Report are completed for every qualified event at GCC.
Budgeting and Scheduling: Ensure that adequate shift coverage is met on a daily basis. Monitoring safety officers' hours to prevent any unjustified overtime. Develop and follow a department budget to include personnel hours, training, supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
Qualifications
Four year degree preferred in Secuirity or a related field, additional certifications or training in security management are highly desirable.
At least 4-years of proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the security industry, preferably in a convention center or similar venue.
Strong knowledge of security principles, practices, and procedures, including emergency response protocols.
Must be a certified Crowd Manager or be able to become certified in a reasonable time limit.
Must be First Aid|CPR|AED certified or be able to become certified in a reasonable time limit.
Strong understanding of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Incident Management System (NIMS) and demonstrate successful completion of Incident Command System Classes (ICS) 100/200/300.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently and professionally with diverse individuals and manage sensitive situations effectively.
Sound judgment and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, security equipment, surveillance systems, and incident reporting software.
Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, and perform security duties for extended periods.
Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
Pass a background check (criminal record, drug testing)
