About the position

The Regional Credit Manager at Dakota Supply Group is responsible for managing credit and collections for a portfolio of branches. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical and customer service skills to enhance credit performance and mitigate risks. The position emphasizes building relationships within the organization and with customers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration to achieve credit management goals.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for credit management and collections for an assigned portfolio of customer accounts, including evaluation of creditworthiness, establishment of credit lines and payment terms, account collections and reserve analysis.
  • Serve on the credit manager team that ensures coverage for credit matters during all company business hours.
  • Maintain knowledge of credit risk management methods including liens, payment bonds, joint checks, personal guarantees, etc., and ensure these instruments are utilized when appropriate.
  • Negotiate course of action taken with past-due accounts, coordinate collection efforts with agencies, work with outside counsel to file legal claims and obtain and enforce judgments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across the organization and within the branches directly supported, communicate proactively and clearly, work with sales associates on collection efforts, convey difficult messages when needed.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, providing excellent customer service while collecting balances due.
  • Analyze the credit portfolio and make recommendations to management regarding bad debt reserves.
  • Contribute to developing and documenting credit and collection policies and procedures.
  • Proactively identify control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement in the current operating environment and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Provide documentation and support for state and local sales tax audits.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing credit for small to large customers, preferably in a distribution environment.
  • Experience with construction industry credit and working knowledge of mechanic's lien laws.
  • Strong business acumen in the areas of credit risk management, industry practices and emerging trends.
  • Advanced knowledge of credit laws/regulations (i.e. Truth in Lending, Fair Credit Reporting, Fair Debt Collection Practices, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; communicates effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, works collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong system aptitude, fast learner, able to navigate systems to combine formal training with exploration/self-learning.
  • Intermediate Excel proficiency.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task, work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Sound judgement and critical thinking skills, sees the 'big picture' when making decisions.
  • Team-player, works for the good of the whole organization, possesses a service attitude.
