About the position

The Registered Dietitian at Discovery Behavioral Health is responsible for overseeing the dietary component of patient care in alignment with the Center For Discovery Clinical Model. This role involves developing and managing individualized dietary meal plans, conducting dietary intakes, and facilitating nutrition groups for both adult and adolescent patients. The Registered Dietitian will work closely with the treatment team to ensure high standards of nutrition and dietary services, while also providing education and support to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with each patient on a weekly basis to implement and manage individualized dietary meal plans including conducting weekly calorie counts
  • Conduct Dietary Intake on admit
  • Complete documentation on each client's progress throughout the treatment experience, ensuring daily progress notes reflect the goals within the treatment plan
  • Facilitate Nutrition Groups appropriate for adult and adolescent age groups
  • Implement one dietary treatment plan for each client within a week of admission
  • Communicate with referring and/or outpatient treatment team throughout patients' treatment episode
  • Oversee Diet Techs to encourage supportive mealtimes and monitor supplementation
  • Collaborate with the Director of Dietary Services and the treatment team to ensure the best standard of nutrition and dietary services
  • Enforce dietary program and advise clients appropriately on food choices
  • Demonstrate understanding of the medical consequences of eating disorders and the hazards of re-feeding
  • Implement specific dietary exchange patterns through knowledge of portion size and caloric recommendations
  • Facilitate family sessions and education, including therapeutic meals, as appropriate
  • Communicate with medical doctor regarding any medical problems that may require dietary intervention
  • Remain accessible to family members, including weekly communication with parents of adolescents
  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed (residential level of care only)

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree with appropriate emphasis and completed accredited dietetic internship
  • Preferred one year experience in dietary counseling
  • Must be fully registered/certified in the appropriate state
  • Thorough knowledge of nutrition and dietary interventions in the mental health field

Nice-to-haves

  • Candidates who have completed their dietetic internship and are eligible to take the registration exam may be considered
