About the position

The RN - Labor & Delivery WEO Nights position involves providing direct patient care in the Labor and Delivery setting. The nurse will be responsible for assessing and planning individualized patient care, communicating with physicians about changes in the patient's clinical condition, and responding quickly to changes in condition or treatment response. The role includes performing general nursing duties across all Maternal-Child Health departments with adequate supervision and participating in performance improvement activities. The nurse must demonstrate competency in various areas, including neonatal resuscitation, fetal monitoring, pain management, and patient education. The position requires the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare providers and maintain a culture of safety and quality in patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Labor and Delivery setting.
  • Assess and plan individualized patient care.
  • Communicate with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
  • Perform general nursing duties in all Maternal-Child Health departments.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation.
  • Conduct antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum assessments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fetal monitoring and identify FHR patterns.
  • Assess presenting part by Leopold Maneuver and/or digital exam.
  • Assess fetal cardiac activity with ultrasound transducer and contraction activity with Toco transducer.
  • Assess and reassess pain and utilize appropriate pain management techniques.
  • Revise plan of care based on patient’s response to treatment.
  • Educate patients and families regarding pain management.
  • Formulate and evaluate teaching plans based on identified learning needs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical skills.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity.
  • Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
  • Function as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintain documentation that meets current standards and policies.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and organization under stressful situations.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Certification.
  • Completion of Basic to Intermediate fetal monitoring course.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current state Registered Nurse Licensure within state of practice.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
