About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position at Starr Regional Medical Center is a permanent, full-time role within the Women's/Med-Surg Department. The RN will be responsible for providing comprehensive patient care, supervising nursing staff, and ensuring effective patient outcomes through assessments and care planning.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
• Establish a plan of care appropriate to identified problems, involving the patient according to their capabilities and desires.
• Supervise and mentor nursing and support staff during assigned shifts.
• Assist in determining staffing levels and assignments based on various factors such as staff availability and patient acuity.
• Provide direct patient care as needed.
• Float between staff to assist with problem-solving.
• Take patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify issues affecting desired outcomes.
• Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• Perform role-specific duties such as entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
• Ensure staff has necessary equipment and supplies for safe, quality patient care.

Requirements

• Current RN license in the state of practice.
• Experience in a medical-surgical or women's health setting preferred.
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
