About the position

The position involves working with retired and senior RSVP volunteers to engage students within Chicago Public Schools who are identified as at-risk for failing in reading and/or math or in danger of repeating their current grade. The role requires collaboration with RSVP volunteers on the primary focus for the program model using the Center for Collaborative Classroom’s (CCC) KidzLit and KidzMath Curricula. Responsibilities include maintaining partnerships with station agencies and Chicago Public Schools, providing resources and training opportunities to RSVP volunteers, and monitoring and supporting these volunteers on a weekly basis. The position also entails community outreach, recruitment, and communication of concerns to support RSVP volunteers' individual needs, goals, and growth. Additionally, the role involves assisting the Program Coordinator in servicing the RSVP volunteers in each school/station, cultivating relationships with local community leaders, planning trainings and workshops, and providing required reports and data materials to SGA and CNCS as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Engage students within Chicago Public Schools identified as at-risk for failing in reading and/or math.
  • Work with RSVP volunteers on the KidzLit and KidzMath Curricula.
  • Maintain partnerships with station agencies and Chicago Public Schools.
  • Provide resources and training opportunities to RSVP volunteers.
  • Monitor and support RSVP volunteers on a weekly basis.
  • Responsible for community outreach, recruitment, partners, and volunteers.
  • Complete intake of RSVP volunteers and targeted students.
  • Communicate concerns to support RSVP volunteers' individual needs, goals, and growth.
  • Assist and support the Program Coordinator in servicing the RSVP volunteers in each school/station.
  • Cultivate relationships with local community leaders and resources.
  • Assist with planning trainings, workshops, orientations, and program events.
  • Provide required reports and data materials to SGA and CNCS as needed.
  • Monitor and submit volunteers' time/log sheets bi-weekly.
  • Monitor RSVP volunteers' progress toward achieving positive outcomes and assignments.
  • Enhance and monitor involvement with community organizations and national service programs.
  • Implement other services requested by SGA or CNCS.
  • Attend training conferences or meetings authorized by CNCS.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Social Work preferred or related field.
  • Experience in volunteering.
  • Experience in networking/collaborating with other organizations/agencies.
  • Experience working in Chicago neighborhoods.
  • Experience working with elementary school students.
  • Experience in outreach.
  • Experience working with retired & seniors.
  • Experience in training others.
  • Experience in case management.
  • Experience in seeking resources.
  • Familiarity with sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, professionals, and community groups.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish positive partnerships.
  • Valid driver’s license, car insurance, and access to an automobile.

Nice-to-haves

  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
  • Some evening and weekend availability may be required.
  • Station visits required.
