About the position

The Safety Supervisor plays a crucial role in supporting the Safety and Training Manager by providing training, evaluations, and monitoring of drivers and driving support staff. This position serves as an intermediary between driving staff and management, ensuring compliance with operational requirements for safe bus operations and corporate safety training processes. The Safety Supervisor is responsible for conducting performance observations, training sessions, and investigating incidents, while also promoting a positive work environment for operators.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts training sessions and reports driver skills and knowledge to management.
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, disputes, and disturbances as assigned, in accordance with policy, and in conjunction with involved authorities.
  • Respond to and investigate accidents/incidents; document all required information, and process all necessary reports and paperwork.
  • Observes driving staff and routinely conduct performance evaluations of drivers.
  • Assists in auditing service, routes and road conditions and recommends alternate routes to dispatch as appropriate.
  • Provides training for new driver trainees.
  • Assists and/or conducts Safety and Training Meetings.
  • Trains operators in use of time, checks and instructs periodically on proper revenue, transfers and farebox data collection, and recommends training or retraining, as appropriate to ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Inspect vehicles frequently for safety and compliance and may take them in for repairs.
  • Ensures bus driver fitness for duty and are responsible to ensure that buses are clean inside and outside.
  • Writes reports regarding service disruptions, security and safety incidents and operator performance/behavior in accordance with policies and procedures. Assists operators where needed in filing of reports.
  • Assists in the processing and follow up of customer service complaints and requests.
  • Ensures a positive work environment for operators by providing coaching, mentoring and assists in training to promote high employee motivation and morale and commitment to company values and excellence in customer service.
  • Assists in supervising compliance with policies and /or processes by action and speech; discusses any breech of policy and procedure noted with the Safety and Training Manager.
  • Enforce Safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of full-time work experience in a management position.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated responsible work experience of at least three (3) years dealing directly with the public.
  • Valid PA Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreement is preferred.
  • Public bus driving experience desirable.
