About the position

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. Technical Program Managers (TPMs) in the Network Product Development (NPD) organization are responsible for managing the life cycle of significantly complex network products. They own developing processes for product development, leveraging leading-edge technology with significant technical and schedule risks, multiple external and internal dependencies, and ambiguous business strategies. They partner with engineering teams to develop program milestones, identify risks, and create mitigation strategies. They also collaborate with supply chain teams to develop supplier and geographical diversity strategy at component and module levels, product manufacturing scaling plans, and transition plans for new products, balancing technical risks in programs with supply risks. TPMs understand the business strategies of different suppliers and influence the development of various business models to drive the creation of lowest-cost and highest-availability network products. They communicate effectively, both internally and externally, to bring clarity on goals, and align stakeholders on program status, risks, and plans. They develop a robust ecosystem of fiber and optical suppliers, understanding the diverse nature of capabilities and technologies offered by various component providers and module integrators. The optical industry relies on multiple component suppliers (fiber connectors, fiber cable, DSPs, lasers, PINs, TIAs, drivers) and assemblers/integrators who create non-standard, scalability-varying manufacturing processes. Fiber and optical program process development is not yet well-established or standardized. The development model is unique to each program, as each one faces different challenges related to design, scaling, or commercial factors. TPMs continuously look for process improvements, leveraging technical and business solutions to deliver sustainable product development strategies. They develop audit mechanisms to identify program risks and work with stakeholders on mitigation strategies. They continuously evolve development processes to improve the efficiency of the organization. Senior TPMs navigate this complex and ambiguous landscape, leveraging their technical knowledge, leadership skills, and cross-functional collaboration abilities to successfully drive the life cycle of optical programs. They play a crucial role in ensuring that Amazon's fiber and interconnect product development aligns with the organization's long-term vision and strategy while maintaining a balance between speed, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
