About the position

As a Senior UI/UX Designer, you will be responsible for guiding government clients through our Design Intelligence™ framework, incorporating human-centered methods to solve complex user experience challenges. You will plan and execute UX initiatives from discovery through interface design, including research, prototyping, iteration, visual design, and usability and accessibility testing. You will serve as the voice of the customer and make sure their needs are considered and met within a proposed solution.

Responsibilities

  • Support other designers, product managers, and engineers with user research and usability testing and translate those results into designs that will improve products in an iterative fashion.
  • Collaborate with product managers, software developers, and client product owners to ensure that designs are properly implemented, regularly tested with users, and iteratively improved on.
  • Collaborate directly with client stakeholders and follow federal client brand guidelines.
  • Develop low-fidelity wireframes and user flows to quickly iterate on design concepts in collaboration with product owners, ensuring alignment on user needs and business requirements while facilitating clear communication with the software engineering teams.
  • Design and develop interactive, high-fidelity clickable prototypes in Figma to communicate user flows, interface designs, and interactions, ensuring alignment with user needs and stakeholder feedback.
  • Act as a bridge between design and development teams, working closely with engineers to ensure design feasibility, accessibility compliance, and seamless implementation of user interfaces.
  • Create, maintain, and update a comprehensive Figma design library that leverages the US Web Design System (USWDS) while incorporating client-specific branding guidelines to ensure consistency and accessibility across digital products.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders, 508 Trusted Testers and OAST stakeholders to ensure that designs are Section 508 compliant for accessibility.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to accessibility best practices by applying WCAG 2.1+ standards, conducting accessibility audits, and collaborating with developers to implement design solutions that support users with a variety of abilities.
  • Support usability testing efforts by collaborating with the team on developing test plans, facilitating user research sessions, and analyzing feedback to refine prototypes and improve the overall user experience based on real user insights.
  • Mentor and coach designers and multidisciplinary team members, fostering a culture of design excellence by sharing best practices, conducting design critiques, and guiding teams in applying human-centered design principles.
  • Participate in all aspects of the discovery process to understand client mission and goals; stakeholders, users and their ecosystems; current state journeys; user segments; program and project objectives.
  • Conduct workshops and interviews to help frame pain points and opportunities, define insights, validate hypothesis, and create a compelling experience vision.
  • Understand the relevance of and how artifacts like journey maps, service blueprints, personas, ecosystem and experience maps fit into crafting the user experience.
  • Conduct user research and testing, and effectively translate user needs into an implementable digital experience.
  • Communicate stakeholder and user needs, and collaborate on a cross functional team within an agile environment.
  • Design intuitive, elegant, and accessible interfaces supported through a test and learn process.
  • Ensure all deliverables across a variety of projects are produced at the highest quality.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government Public Trust Security Clearance.
  • Tools: Mural, Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • 10 years of professional UX and UI experience designing viable solutions for multi-platform digital products.
  • Current portfolio demonstrating ideology, methods, tools, skills, and craft.
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience conducting primary and secondary user-research including user interviews, discovery and co-creation workshops, heuristic evaluation, and card sorting.
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience in UI design including wireframing, low- and high-fidelity prototyping, moderated and unmoderated usability testing, and accessibility testing.
  • Knowledge and experience with 508 compliance requirements.
  • Experience working on a scrum team within the Agile delivery framework and experience integrating research and design into technical sprints including writing user stories and story pointing.
  • Proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, Zeplin and other prototyping tools.
  • Desire to keep pace with ever-changing industry tools and best practices with the ability to make recommendations as needed for the best outcome.
  • Experience collaborating within a multi-disciplinary delivery team including service designers, technologists, data scientists, engineers, solution architects, and change managers.
  • A natural curiosity for solving problems coupled with strong analytical skills.
  • A collaborative nature with excellent written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience working in a project-based environment.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in HCD, HCI, and/or UX design.

Benefits

  • The projected compensation range for this position is $110,000 to $170,000.
