About the position

Caliola's Software Defined Radio (SDR) Engineers support the development of novel wireless communications technologies and products by applying a combination of RF and mixed-signal capabilities and digital signal processing. They also support the design, development, and implementation of embedded software for wireless communications technologies and products. At Caliola, SDR engineers are problem solvers who enjoy solving hard technical problems quickly and creatively and applying innovative approaches to solve technical challenges. You will have the opportunity to mentor and develop a talented group to lead new advances in SDR engineering and push the leading edge of RF communication technologies. SDR Engineers work independently or under supervision across multiple projects within multiple business areas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prototype innovative new technologies to implement software defined radio systems, antennas, and circuits, for various applications, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • In our lab, develop, test and troubleshoot SDR hardware, FPGA development systems, and RF signals using test and measurement equipment.
  • Support multiple programs developing and testing novel processing algorithms running on a software defined radio.
  • Develop software and firmware source code in C/C++, Embedded C, and other languages to support Caliola's Design, implement, and maintain test harnesses used to support wireless communications product and prototype development.
  • Develop and plan for SDR operational testing to demonstrate performance in communication and networking systems.
  • Optimize and refine SDR algorithms and implementations to meet evolving operational needs.
  • Work with Systems Engineers to define requirements for realizing new signal processing algorithms.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports and manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MS or BS plus 2 years' experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics or a related professional technical discipline.
  • Experience solving technical problems in the areas of wireless communication, data processing, and signals collection.
  • Strong background in scientific programming using languages such as C, C++, Python.
  • Experience developing communication system components for SDR frameworks like GNU Radio.
  • Experience with standard RF lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, etc.).
  • Experience integrating SDR components with external systems and software.
  • Experience with wireless digital communication systems, in particular modern digital modulation techniques and modem design.
  • Proven track record of being resourceful and creative, and willing to contribute to a multidisciplinary and fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Awareness of relevant industry standards, regulations and best practices in RF design and safety.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. Government.
