This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies. We are seeking an experienced software engineer to join Blue Origin's Material Movement and Receiving team. This team's systems track the hundreds of thousands of parts that go into our rockets as well as other tools and equipment, they are used by 10,000+ users and are a critical input to Blue Origin's fast-moving manufacturing goals! We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Responsibilities

  • Collaborating extensively with Sr. and Principal engineers to design and deliver our ambitious roadmap.
  • Designing optimal technical architectures and presenting your designs to other SDEs and managers.
  • Implementing complex designs using backend and frontend programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript and React.
  • Integrating with AWS products such as DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS and many others!
  • Utilizing modern technical design patterns and frameworks such as GraphQL, REST APIs and message queues.
  • Communicating ideas through words, diagrams, and code with internal team members.
  • Maintaining strong operational excellence and delivering industry-leading, high-quality technical solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience writing software and deploying it to production environments.
  • Proficiency in at least one typed language (e.g., Java or C) and one untyped language (e.g., Python or JavaScript).
  • Extensive experience with object-oriented design.
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals such as design patterns, algorithms and common data structures.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering software projects from inception to launch.
  • Some experience in distributed backend systems and cloud-based environments, such as AWS.
  • A solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI.
  • Ability to solve problems by writing efficient code given clear requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for solving complex technical challenges.
  • A passion for space exploration and a commitment to Blue Origin's mission.

Nice-to-haves

  • Any experience with manufacturing.
  • Any experience in the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Some experience with iOS, Android or React Native app development.
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks like React.
  • Microservice architecture.
  • Continuous integration/continuous deployment strategies.
  • Relational or non-relational database design/implementation.
