About the position

Marriott International, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Data Platforms in Bethesda, MD. The position requires establishing data modeling standards, collaborating with a dedicated team on cloud-based technologies, and facilitating business requirements analysis. The engineer will leverage Python for data analysis, define enterprise-scale cloud solutions, and lead Business Intelligence initiatives. Additional responsibilities include validating service provider deliverables, developing large-scale data pipelines, and participating in agile ceremonies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, debug, and optimize Unix shell scripts for system administration tasks.
  • Design and implement scalable and secure system solutions for data ingestion pipelines using Snowflake Stream and AWS S3.
  • Re-engineer existing Business Intelligence data structures to enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Author complex financial reports using SQL queries across databases such as Snowflake, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
  • Establish data modeling standards and document processes in Confluence.
  • Identify and analyze innovative solutions for complex business requirements.
  • Collaborate with a team on developing cloud-based technologies for the BI platform.
  • Facilitate business requirements analysis and functional design sessions.
  • Leverage Python for data analysis and reporting systems.
  • Define and support enterprise-scale cloud solutions in an agile environment.
  • Lead Business Intelligence initiatives and establish technical standards.
  • Validate service provider deliverables and schedules.
  • Develop and maintain large-scale data pipelines and applications.
  • Collaborate with development teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and convert roadmap features into epics and user stories.
  • Work with the IT Architecture team to address functional requirements.
  • Create source-to-target mappings for data integrations.
  • Configure and maintain Splunk for log analysis and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related technical field.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience with application design or development.
  • 5 years of experience in business systems analysis or project management on software development projects.
  • 5 years of experience in Business Intelligence (BI) with tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
  • 4 years of experience in business process re-engineering.
  • 4 years of experience using project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • 4 years of experience working within Agile Development methodologies.
  • 4 years of experience in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • 4 years of experience facilitating requirements analysis and functional design work sessions.
  • 4 years of experience documenting source-to-target mappings.
  • 3 years of experience in general application and infrastructure support.
  • 3 years of technical delivery ownership of large-scale data pipelines and applications.
  • 3 years of experience developing data applications on AWS.
  • 2 years of experience migrating data platforms/applications to AWS.
  • 2 years of experience in data modeling and semantic layer design.
  • 2 years of hands-on experience with Snowflake and AWS S3.
