About the position

This particular job posting is a 'Pool' position. There may or may not be available openings at this time however, when an opening does occur, the hiring manager will draw from the pool of applicants we have on file on an as needed basis. The Adult Education Instructor designs and delivers instruction exploring Social Studies, Science Arts, Social Justice, and the Human Experience to adult learners seeking to build college ready literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and workplace readiness skills. This position delivers in-person and/or online instruction (synchronous and asynchronous) to adult learners preparing academic readiness for sections of either high school equivalency test approved in Massachusetts (HiSET or GED). Instructors are required to keep written lesson plans and align all instructional activities to the program curriculum, College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education, Next Generation Science Standards and C3 Framework for Social Studies Standards. The Adult Education Instructor works cooperatively with program staff and administration to ensure students make appropriate academic progress. As such, the Adult Education Instructor reviews diagnostic assessment results to inform instructional planning and delivers formative assessments to measure student learning and progress. The Adult Education Instructor implements research-based instructional practices designed to accelerate learning and progress students along a regionally relevant career pathway toward postsecondary enrollment and/or employment. Instructors collaborate with personnel at the college, MassHIre North Central Career Center, and regional partner agencies to ensure students are connected to all supports needed to enhance their success and prepare them for successful transition to post-secondary enrollment and/or workplace success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rigorous remote and/or face-to-face academic instruction in Social Studies, Arts, Social Justice, and the Human Experience to adult learners seeking to build college ready literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and workplace readiness skills.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional practices as part of course design and delivery.
  • Deliver instruction using research-based practices effective for adult learners in in person and/or remote settings.
  • Conduct diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to inform instructional design and delivery and to measure student learning.
  • Maintain appropriate student data including proof of academic progress and samples of completed work and utilize that data to increase access to curriculum and design individualized learning opportunities for students as necessary.
  • Participate in student progress team meetings with colleagues (administration, advisors and counselors, other instructors, etc.).
  • Arrive at least ten minutes prior to the beginning of class and stay until completing scheduled learning activities.
  • Work cooperatively with Counselors/Coordinators/Advisors to assist each enrolled student in the development of a comprehensive education and career plan.
  • Collaborate with Counselors to deliver instruction in college and workplace readiness.
  • Contextualize instruction to include industry specific content when appropriate.
  • Maintain electronic copies of weekly instructional plans aligned to the program's curriculum and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.
  • Increase knowledge and awareness of postsecondary education and employment opportunities within the priority industries of North Central Massachusetts.
  • Attend all program wide meetings as scheduled by the Director of Adult Education or President's Designee.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled curriculum development and program improvement activities as assigned.
  • Engage in common planning time with peers.
  • Work in collaboration with program on developing and/or implementing a multi-year strategic plan aligned to WIOA, State, Local, and Institutional priorities.
  • Effectively utilize technology to enhance student learning and increase student progress.
  • Provide timely and authentic feedback/grading to students through a variety of ways including digital feedback through the learning management system.
  • Conduct face-to-face and remote student classroom sessions as needed utilizing video conferencing technology.
  • Regularly access, review, and update student electronic files.
  • Record, access, and utilize electronic assessment results to inform instruction.
  • Participate in all phases of the educator effectiveness evaluation process.
  • Collaborate with program administration to develop and implement an annual professional development plan.
  • Participate in at least twelve hours of professional development activities.
  • Participate in classroom observations as determined by the Director of Adult Education.
  • Have their online learning environment reviewed throughout the academic year.
  • Participate in an annual instructor effectiveness evaluation conducted by the program director.
  • Participate in the annual performance review process with their direct supervisor.
  • Attend the DESE sponsored online 'New Staff Orientation' if less than one year experience in adult education.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Critical Thinking or closely related field.
  • Three (3) years experience and/or training that includes program coordination, teaching, critical thinking instruction, curriculum development, and computer operations in a community college environment.
  • An Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • K-12 certification.
  • Experience designing and delivering remote instruction.
  • Experience working with adult students.
