About the position

The Structural Heart Coordinator RN at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital is responsible for overseeing the ventricular assist device (VAD) program, ensuring comprehensive patient care throughout the continuum of treatment. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to assess, educate, and manage patients with VADs, while also handling administrative tasks related to device tracking and patient waitlists. The coordinator plays a vital role in enhancing patient outcomes and supporting the hospital's mission of providing high-quality healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Heart Failure multidisciplinary team in providing VAD assessment and consultation.
  • Plan, perform, and evaluate activities related to implantation of ventricular devices.
  • Serve as a resource to staff during the peri-operative phase of device implant.
  • Provide clinical consultation and VAD-specific education to patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Assist with device tracking and ordering, maintaining relationships with device vendors.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in time management and coordinating patient needs.
  • Coordinate admit and discharge plans for patients post VAD implant.
  • Facilitate access to community resources for patient recovery.
  • Act as a liaison between VAD patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Facilitate readmission of patients with a VAD when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with care teams to maintain positive relationships and achieve outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • 5 years of cardiology and/or heart failure experience preferred.
  • 2 years of VAD experience preferred.
