About the position

The Student Success Advisor plays a crucial role in providing academic advising and life coaching support to students at Boyce College. This position focuses on enhancing student retention through personalized guidance and support, helping students navigate their academic journey effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising and counseling to undergraduate level students.
  • Assist students with decisions about majors and the process of declaring/changing majors and minors.
  • Guide students during course registration periods and help them develop a responsible approach to academic planning.
  • Work with students to develop realistic goals that contribute to academic and personal success in college.
  • Motivate students to achieve education goals.
  • Provide academic support for students on Academic Warning, Probation, and Suspension in accordance with the Academic Policies of Boyce College.
  • Communicate with applicable program coordinators regarding course sequences and course substitutions.
  • Identify and contact students on academic warning or probation to provide personalized academic success plans and accountability based on identified risk factors.
  • Monitor and record progress of individual students, maintaining consistent and confidential records of individual student data.
  • Refer and connect students to relevant resources; coordinate with other offices regarding additional outreach and support.
  • Assist the Academic Records office with processing transfer credit evaluations and improving the transfer credit process.
  • Cooperate with other offices at Boyce College and Southern Seminary to support their mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in advising and counseling undergraduate-level students is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work at a fast pace.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to respond appropriately to non-verbal communication cues.
  • Visual acuity to work unassisted in editing printed materials.

  • Familiarity with student learning styles and how to improve academic engagement and performance.
