About the position

The Summer 2025 Genentech Community College Internship Program offers manufacturing-based roles in Oceanside, CA, aimed at fostering diversity in the talent pipeline and exposing students from underrepresented groups to STEM career paths. The program is designed to train entry-level candidates with skills for a career in the biopharma industry, providing mentorship and hands-on experience in a professional setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various tasks under the guidance and mentorship of a manager.
  • Attend meetings and read independently on relevant topics.
  • Follow a training schedule set by the supervisor.
  • Perform tasks independently as appropriate.
  • Summarize the purpose of work and findings, and present recommendations in oral and poster presentations.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a community college or terminal A.S./A.A. degree holder within 1.5 years post-graduation at the time of application.
  • Must be age 18 or older for this opportunity.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED at the time of application.
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Integrity, Courage, and Passion that complements the company culture.
  • Interest in a STEM career, preferably in biotech/pharma.
  • Careful, detail-oriented working style.
  • Commitment to being trained in a new area and asking questions to support learning.
  • Adaptive learner who can adjust to change easily.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pipetting and wet lab measurements skills.
  • Understanding of chemistry calculations.
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques.
  • Familiarity with bioreactors.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with presentations using programs like Google Slides or PowerPoint.
  • Time management skills.
  • Experience with organizational software like Google Calendar.
