About the position

The Supervisor Environmental Services position at Rutgers University is responsible for overseeing the cleaning staff to ensure that all areas of the facility are clean, orderly, and meet quality standards. This role involves planning work schedules, conducting inspections, managing personnel changes, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations regarding waste handling. The supervisor will also coordinate logistics for meetings and special functions, while maintaining accurate records and reports.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare work schedules and daily task assignments for cleaning personnel.
• Recommend hiring, firing, promotion, demotion, merit increases, transfers, and disciplinary actions for employees.
• Conduct inspections in designated areas, log results, and investigate complaints regarding housekeeping services.
• Compile data and prepare required reports and documents, maintaining accurate employee records and attendance.
• Coordinate moves, transport services, and set-up/reset procedures for meetings and special functions.
• Oversee the safe handling of bio-hazardous, hazardous, municipal waste, and recyclable materials according to regulations.
• Requisition, distribute, and monitor the utilization of supplies, tools, and equipment to ensure budget compliance.
• Coordinate environmental services workers for grounds duties and snow removal activities.

Requirements

• Three years of experience in a housekeeping department, with at least one year of supervisory experience in a housekeeping environment.
• Ability to interact with people of all ages in a diverse and multicultural environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
