About the position

The Transportation Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of H-E-B's transportation operations. This position involves reviewing and investigating accidents and citations, providing training on safety regulations, and serving as a liaison between safety teams and various stakeholders. The specialist is responsible for maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations while delivering excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complete accident and citation review, investigation, and recommendations to comply with H-E-B policy.
  • Train leaders on federal and state regulations related to transportation safety.
  • Serve as a liaison between Safety, internal and external customers, and federal/state/local officials.
  • Conduct onsite reviews and audits of driver and vehicle records, including inspections of equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure all required accident and citation investigation documentation is complete.
  • Review accidents and citations, investigating as necessary and making recommendations for resolutions or additional training.
  • Provide regular audit reviews of citation and accident history to leaders.
  • Maintain driver safety mileage data and provide it to Delivery Ops or others as needed.
  • Administer Drug and Alcohol Program processes and coordinate accident appeals.
  • Monitor compliance with hours of service regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience in Safety or a related field (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of federal/state motor carrier regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong training and presentation skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Intermediate PC skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between tasks with attention to detail.

  • Participation in local/state Safety Professional organizations (preferred).
  • Participation in continuing education courses/seminars/conferences related to safety, transportation, or regulatory compliance (preferred).
